Pipeline Restoration Project at the BRP - Day Two: Sunday, October 6, 2024

10/6/2024 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM ET

The FBRP are restoring a section of the BRP that was clear-cut in 1990 by the Evesham MUA for water management.  We are re-foresting 4 former clear-cut unmarked trails by planting Pitch Pine Trees and Lowbush Blueberry in these areas. See map and project plan below.

Day One – Saturday:  Volunteers will use shovels to plant the pitch pine trees and low bush blueberry according to the planting plan.  This includes the 7 pipeline end areas = 154 plants, the added Pipeline #3 trail areas = 60 plants, and Pipeline #3 & 5 middle areas = 70 plants (284 total plants to be installed).  Volunteers will then rake and spread around the plantings existing forest duff and acorns obtained from the surrounding forest floor.

Day Two – Sunday: Volunteers will continue the ground surface finishing of Pipeline #3 and #5 by raking and spreading existing forest duff and acorns obtained from the surrounding forest floor.

We will finish installing marker whip posts with restoration signage, roping, etc. to block-off the unmarked trail areas and protect the new planting.

Lunch and beverages will be provided on both days.

What to Bring:  work gloves, shovels, rakes, garden trowels, and a wheelbarrow if available.

What to Wear:  Dress for the weather.  Hiking or heavy boots are recommended.

Where to Meet:  Meet at Bortons Road Trailhead

WAIVER: When arriving at the event, all participants will be required to sign a FBRP Volunteer Led Activity Release Agreement.  FYI, a link to a copy of this document is displayed on the right of your screen.
