Friends of Black Run Preserve (FBRP), in partnership with Balanced Planet Yoga, invites you to venture outside and experience the benefits of the natural world through Veterans in Nature: a special wellness program that you share with other Vets who understand your journey because they've been on it too.
 
This program was inspired by the National Forest Service’s (NFS) recognition of the benefits nature provides, which are often underutilized by veterans nationwide. NFS’s call-to-action led FBRP to design a program connecting veterans with nature, self, and others. Our intention is to facilitate an opportunity to explore proven techniques grounded in choice and safety that can regulate your nervous system as well as treat symptoms of PTSD.  Rather than being told what to do or how to feel, you can opt in or out as you wish. The natural beauty of the Black Run Preserve is the perfect environment to regain your sense of agency and feel empowered to make choices aligned with your values.

The Veterans in Nature experience is a two-mile, easy-paced walk with stops for discussions and mindfulness tool development.

The program is a peer-led initiative designed to foster connection, wellness, and a sense of community through outdoor experiences. Please note that we are not licensed therapists or mental health professionals. Our goal is to offer support through nature-based activities, not to replace professional mental health care. If you are in need of therapeutic support, we encourage you to seek help from qualified mental health providers.

Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Where: Meeting at the Kettle Run Road East trailhead
Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Water and snacks will be provided. Trekking poles will be available for those who may wish to use them.
